Pray and Vote 2009
| European Parliament elections 5 June, 2009 Financial turmoil, rising anti-Semitism and an increasing neglect of Judeo-Christian values. It is not difficult to paint a dark picture of Europe. Nevertheless, Christians can make a difference when we combine prayer with action. First, we must stand strong in our call to “pray for those in authority."* This includes European authority. Second, we must hold fast to this biblical mandate and promise: “Seek welfare of the city where God has sent you. When it prospers, you will prosper.” ** |
The campaign “Pray and Vote 2009” aims at mobilizing, inspiring and informing Christian believers in Europe to take part in the European Parliament elections in two ways: Prayer and Action.
Your vote in the EP elections will influence the future and the daily life of nearly 500 million fellow Europeans. If you don't vote, someone else will – and decide who represents you at the only directly elected Pan-European assembly. Your vote – or someone else's – will determine which elected MEPs will shape the future of Europe for the next five years.
The upcoming election will determine whether the European Union will adhere to its Judeo-Christian heritage. How will the EU define religious freedom in Europe and abroad? How will the EU respond to rising anti-Semitism? How will the EU develop its relations with Israel? These questions will be answered by your vote.
Anti-Semitism and the existential threat to Israel is rising at an ever increasing and alarming rate. Will Christians stand up for the Jewish people who now face new threats and challenges in Europe and in the Middle East? Christians, by and large, failed the Jewish people in the 1930's. Our second chance to do the right thing is knocking on the door of our hearts and our nations right now!
Who to vote for?
Voting with our prayer and our action must include knowing what the candidates and the political parties stand for.
Key indicators of where the party offices of 27 member states stand on Judeo-Christian values and EU-Israeli relations have been revealed by a recent survey. Be sure to carefully review each of the party offices' five survey answers we have listed here on this website. For many of us, the answers are so vitally important that they may determine how we vote.
The background notes provided here on EU-Israeli relations and current developments will help you to discuss the issues with the candidates and eventually find your own candidate.
Watching the video clips of candidates introducing themselves to you will also help you make informed decisions.
We hope and pray that you will join this campaign in these three ways:
1. Pray for the elections and for our leaders in Europe.
2. Vote in the European Parliament elections 5 June, 2009.
3. Inspire as many people as possible to make this pledge to help decide the future of Europe and Israel.
