- Should God or Judeo-Christian heritage be specifically mentioned in the Lisbon treaty? Please motivate your answer.
HIS ANSWER: My party, the British Conservatives, opposes the Lisbon treaty for other reasons so I cannot directly answer this question but speaking personally our common European judeo-christian culture is the glue when coupled to Greco Roman legal and philosophical influence which binds European nations together
- Do you consider anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism a problem in Europe today? What will your party do to combat anti-Semitism and to foster better relations between Europe and Israel?
HIS ANSWER: Yes and my party firmly opposes the rise of anti semitism across Europe. I am the only UK MEP to sit on the steering committee of the European Friends of Israel setup in the European Parliament to oppose antisemitism and build close relations with Israel
- What do you consider to be Israels most important challenge now and in the future?
HIS ANSWER: To restart the peace process and build a durable peace between Israel and the Palestinians based on a two state solution living side by side in peace and security. To rid the region of the scourge of islamist terrorism and extremism which undermines the security of Israel in particular the existential threat posed by Hamas and Hezbollah.
- How will your party deal with the nuclear threat from Iran? Should the EU engage in dialogue with Hamas and/or Hizbollah?
HIS ANSWER: Iran needs a stick and carrot approach and engagement with the more moderate elements in its leadership without ruling out more severe sanctions if necessary. I personally will never accept the legitimacy of dialogue with extremists organisations like Hamas and Hizbollah until they have moderated their views and embraced the Quartet criteria
- How should the free trade agreement between Europe and Israel be developed?
HIS ANSWER: It should be supported and enhanced provided the government of Israel sticks to the Oslo peace agreement and the roadmap for peace.
