The Peace Party / John Morris (South East)

1. Should “God” or “Judeo-Christian heritage” be specifically mentioned in the Lisbon treaty? Please motivate your answer.

Like the Peace Party, the European Union is a secular body reflecting the wide religious and atheist/humanist basis of the community.  The Peace Party believes then that no religion or religious tradition should be mentioned in the Treaty.

2. Do you consider anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism a problem in Europe today? What will your party do to combat anti-Semitism and to foster better relations between Europe and Israel?

The Peace Party does not consider that either anti-Semitism or anti-Zionism is a problem as such in Europe today.  We are aware of minor incidents that have taken place, of course.  The Peace Party knows that, by and large, Europeans are tolerant of the multitude of different communities making up their unique continent.  The Peace Party will do all in its power to promote tolerance and racial and religious harmony throughout the EU.
The Peace Party will also do all in its power to foster the best relations with al countries throughout the world including, of course, Israel and Palestine.

3. What do you consider to be Israel’s most important challenge now and in the future?

To show the world that it really cares for its own inhabitants in not exposing them to terrorism because of its actions against its neighbours and that it cares specifically for the Palestinians and Palestine to resolve all outstanding problems as quickly as possible.

4. How will your party deal with the nuclear threat from Iran? Should the EU engage in dialogue with Hamas and/or Hizbollah?

The Peace Party deplores all the vast stores of nuclear weapons wherever they may be and will support all moves to eliminate such weapons as swiftly as possible.  All nuclear weapons are a threat to humanity, be they held by the USA, UK, France, Russia, India, Pakistan, Israel, North Korea or Iran.
Peace can only ultimately be obtained by dialogue; of course, any group or nation should be drawn into discussions and negotiations where conflict needs to be resolved.

5. How should the free trade agreement between Europe and Israel be developed?

The Peace Party would encourage the EU to develop trade agreements with all countries – any further development of one-off agreements should be put on hold or put into abeyance until all countries can be treated equitably.
